My Social Media Breakfast: Singapore 2 Challenge

The attendee list on the Facebook Event page for Social Media Breakfast: Singapore 2 has been at 40 people for a couple of days now, about 60% were present at the first one. This is good in the sense that we’ll be familiar with each other and really move the conversation forward and talk about the crazy issues that plague all of us who’re trying to figure out the space.

However, there’s also something missing. New blood! I talked before about the fishbowl and being insular
, and if we want the landscape of social media to change, we have to reach out. To people who are just entering the social media domain, to people who are curious but still on the fence, to people who don’t even know about this world yet!

So here’s the challenge: Convince one other person (friend, classmate, colleague, family) that this is worth their while. Let them know it’s newbie friendly, after all, most of us are new to the space anyway!

That’s the mission if you choose to accept it, come back and let everyone know how it went by posting in the comments section!

Hey! The Facebook event page not working for you?

    Hi Daryl,

How about organising a lunch during workdays next time round?

I told my colleague about the breakfast gathering. She’s one of those “just entering the social media domain” and is interested to attend…..However, Saturdays are quite precious for some of us working folks – she wants to spend time with her young baby while I’m using weekends to run errands and finalising renovation work at my apartment. Technically, it will be easier for us to snatch 1-1.5 hours off during lunch time on a weekday.

@Liana: Hmm it’s a consideration but I have this suspicion it will be hard for a central location. Also students having class in the middle of the day is a worry. But you know, maybe we should try to have a small social media spinoff with maybe 8-10 people meeting for lunch for an hour and a half specially for people new to the social media space. What do you think?

Let me stake a claim to the new blood introductions. On the facebook page, there is a Razlan, from South China Morning Post. 🙂
